PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man was found guilty on multiple felony charges after a domestic assault in 2022.
Man arrested after woman found shot on Leckie St. in Portsmouth
During a two-day trial which concluded on Tuesday, Maurice Datrelle Ruffin II was found guilty of aggravated malicious wounding, shooting in commission of a felony, abduction, use of a firearm in commission of abduction, use of a firearm in commission of aggravated malicious wounding, brandishing a firearm and maliciously discharging a firearm in an occupied building after assaulting his girlfriend.
According to evidence from the trial, during the morning of April 13, 2022, both the victim and Ruffin went to a vacant apartment in the 1500 block of Leckie Street. The victim, Ruffin’s girlfriend at the time, operated a cleaning business and was preparing the apartment for rental. While on the way to the apartment, Ruffin accused the victim of cheating on him, leading to an argument.
Once inside of the apartment, evidence states that Ruffin pinned the victim to the floor, choking her and pointing a gun at her. The victim eventually was able to get free from Ruffin, where she then ran towards the bathroom…
