Hail, power outages reported in Virginia Beach during Friday storms

5:15 p.m. — Severe Thunderstorm Warning expires for Chesapeake

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northeast Chesapeake expired at 5:15p.

5:02 p.m. — Severe Thunderstorm Warning canceled for Virginia Beach

The National Weather Service cancelled a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Virginia Beach just after 5 p.m. The NWS statement said that the storm that prompted the warning has moved out of that area.

The warning remains in place for parts of Chesapeake until 5:15 p.m.

4:50 p.m. — Hail coming down in Virginia Beach

More than a half dozen 13News Now viewers sent videos and photos to the newsroom of a hail coming down in various parts of Virginia Beach. Reports came from the Red Mill, Ocean Lakes and West Neck areas, near Salem and Elbow roads, and at Southgate off Nimmo Parkway.

4:35 p.m. — Power outage reported in Virginia Beach

Dominion Energy confirmed that a “downed tree and downed wire” near the Stumpy Lake area caused a power outage around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The outage initially affected 4,600 customers, but within minutes power was restored to most of those people. A spokeswoman said Dominion was able to do that through an automated system that sectioned off the affected area and re-routed the flow of power through other lines…
