NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Saturday, May 10, marks the 32nd anniversary of the Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, designed to help provide meals to members of their communities in need.
Donations of non-perishable food are left in mailboxes and doorsteps and then collected on the second Saturday of May. They are then distributed to local foodbanks, such as the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, as nearly two billion pounds of food have been collected over the 32-year history.
“This drive is special because it brings neighbors together to support one another in such an easy and direct way,” said Christopher Tan, President and CEO. “Our letter carriers witness hunger in all its forms on their routes—among families, children, and seniors.
