NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) announced the return of its First Fridays block party series.
The event, which was canceled in September of 2021 despite its success, will kick off on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025. According to officials, around 5,000 people attended each block party in 2021, bringing a financial boost to local businesses.

A release states a recent financial approval from the city to have more events is what helped to bring back the popular community event to Downtown Norfolk. So far, four dates have been announced:
- Aug. 1, 2025 from 5-8:30 p.m.
- Sept. 5, 2025 from 5-8:30 p.m.
- April 3, 2026 from 5-8:30 p.m.
- May 1, 2026 from 5-8:30 p.m.
“We are incredibly grateful for the City of Norfolk’s commitment to enhancing our downtown experience in a way that will increase visitation,” President and CEO of DNC Mary Miller said. “First Fridays have always been a fantastic way to showcase the vibrancy of the Downtown neighborhood, support local businesses, and bring the entire Norfolk community together. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for these four exciting dates.”
