Music Radio is mourning the loss of Mark “McKay” Cunningham. McKay passed away this past weekend from cancer.
McKay was with Max Media’s 97.3 The Eagle in Virginia Beach from 1999 to 2019. He then moved to the label side where he was Dir./Southeast Regional Promotion for Riser House from 2019-2020.
During his time with The Eagle, he served as MD, APD before rising to the Program Director chair in 2012. He hosted both afternoons and mornings during his tenure. From 2017 to 2019, he also programmed sister station Sports WVSP.
Country’s Radio Coach John Shomby, a friend and former colleague of McKay’s in Virginia Beach, told Barrett Media, “Mark was the consummate radio programming pro. He listened to everything and had one of the best ears for music I ever came across. He was my little brother from another mother – a real pain in the ass at times but always had my back. Miss him immensely.”…
