Virginia Beach has recently gained notoriety as a central hub for drug trafficking activity in Virginia. This reputation has been cemented by a series of record-breaking drug busts and ongoing law enforcement operations targeting large-scale distribution networks operating in the region.
Record Methamphetamine Seizure Shines Spotlight
In November 2024, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD), in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Chesapeake Police Department, executed the largest single methamphetamine seizure in the city’s history.
Officers confiscated 156 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at approximately $350,000, from a vehicle during a targeted operation. The suspect, Alonzo Harden Jr., was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including possession with intent to distribute and firearms offenses.
Police Chief Paul Neudigate highlighted the significance of the bust, stating, “This seizure represents a major step forward in disrupting the methamphetamine distribution networks operating in the Hampton Roads area.” The operation is seen as a critical blow to the supply chain, potentially saving lives and reducing the prevalence of dangerous drugs in the community.
