Weather Impact Alert issued after potential for strong to severe thunderstorms on Saturday

The 13News Now Weather Impact Team has declared a “Weather Impact Alert” for Saturday, June 7 due to the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing heavy downpours, hail, and strong to damaging wind gusts.

A cold front will approach Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina Saturday afternoon and evening. A very warm, humid and unstable air mass will be in place ahead of its arrival, meaning that the environment will be conducive to promoting strong to severe thunderstorms, especially in northeast North Carolina.

Currently, there is a Level 2 (out of 5) risk of severe thunderstorms for northeast North Carolina and a Level 1 (out of 5) for southeast Virginia. The most likely timing for severe weather is from 3-8 p.m. Saturday. Hail, heavy downpours, and gusty, damaging winds are the primary threats, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. There is still quite a bit of uncertainty about the strength and timing of these thunderstorms…
