Portsmouth sheriff cancels pending ICE agreement, citing confusion over ‘sanctuary cities’ list

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Citing confusion from a now-removed list of cities allegedly not in compliance with federal immigration practices, Portsmouth Sheriff Michael Moore tells 13News Now he’s cancelling a recently signed and pending agreement with ICE after a re-examination of their policies.

“I made the decision not to go through with it,” Moore says. “I made the decision because what they were asking us to do pretty much mirrors what we already do in our policy that’s been in effect for years.”

In a letter sent to officials at the Department of Homeland Security, Moore wrote he is cancelling a pending agreement to participate in the ICE 287(g) program, citing that the policies of the program’s “Warrant Service Officer Program” are already mirrored by the regular operations of the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office…
