PORTSMOUTH, Va (WAVY) – This summer, cars and motorcycles alike will be taking to the roads. However, the Naval Safety Command wants to see increased safety when it comes to their servicemembers who ride.
Numbers on the Naval Safety Command’s Motorcycle Fatality Tracker have risen to a near all-time high. 22 Sailors and 11 Marines were killed across the country in motorcycle accidents. It’s the highest number of fatalities since 2008 – before motorcycle training was mandatory. The Navy says this is unacceptable and demands immediate action. They’re implementing safety measures to make sure they do everything to prevent more loss of life.
