Woman sentenced to 40 years for killing her mother at Norfolk senior living home

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A woman convicted of killing her mother nearly one year ago at a senior home in Norfolk was sentenced Friday to serve 40 years in jail.

No remorse and no accountability — that is how the prosecution described 53-year-old Heather Cummings in court Friday as they recounted the events of June 30, 2024.

Police were called to a senior living home on Poplar Hall Drive in Norfolk and found 81-year-old Cleo Loizides dead. Her daughter, Heather Cummings, at first told detectives her mother probably died of natural causes, then later confessed she held her wrists down while her son, Clifton Cummings, 24, strangled his grandmother with the strap of a handbag he purchased at a Norfolk dollar store…
