PHOTOS: Big cat gets dental procedure at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Christopher the Malayan tiger is recovering from a dental procedure he underwent at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk.

During his annual exam, zoo staff said they discovered that Christopher, who is 14 years old, had some broken teeth, which they said is common for big cats as they age. An x-ray showed the damage went deeper. He had an infection.

Dr. Mary Buelow of Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery is a specialist in this field of work. The veterinary team brought in Dr. Buelow to complete the procedure. She extracted two of Christopher’s teeth on May 28.

His keepers say he is doing well with is recovery and is already back in his exhibit…
