CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A local recycling company recently acquired new AI technology that can separate paper products from all other items.
TFC Recycling offers curbside services to more than 500,000 households in cities like Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, and through a grant, they were able to buy a camera that detects paper products on a conveyer belt. This means they can add paper to their residential recycling program, which is huge considering Virginia is banning Styrofoam as of Tuesday.
TFC Recycling has been in Hampton Roads since the early 1970s, but they’re not stuck in the past. They recently installed an optical sorting unit that separates paper products from all other items. They service more than 500,000 households — so they see a lot of paper…
