USNS Arctic returns home after 8-month deployment, just before 4th of July

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — USNS Arctic, a fast combat support ship, has returned to Naval Station Norfolk just in time for the Fourth of July.

The ship returned after a nearly nine-month deployment, which saw its crew work closely with the Truman Carrier Strike Group in the Red Sea.

“The Arctic is a supply class AOE, so it’s designed to be a single ship, kind of one-stop shop for the entire carrier strike group,” said Capt. Jamie Murdock, commodore of Military Sealift command Atlantic. “Harry S. Truman happens to be moored right here across the pier. They [USNS Arctic crew] deployed in the Red Sea in the middle of hostilities in that region.”…
