Swiftwater Rescue Team leader gives update on efforts underway in Texas

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — It took the Virginia Beach Fire Department’s eight-person Swiftwater Rescue Team 24 hours, with stops, to get to Kerr County, Texas to begin their work in the search for missing people in the wake of the flash floods that have killed at least 120 people. Another 173 people are missing.

The number of missing is really concerning, and as the leader of the Virginia Beach Swiftwater Rescue Team said, the team is now in recovery mode.

The video shows the team going down swollen streams in swift currents, and they are now engaged in secondary searches for more bodies unaccounted for.

Team Leader Battalion Chief Jeff Smith said it’s been going “very slow.”…
