VDOT to pay off $36M in toll debt for drivers of Midtown and Downtown tunnels

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — More than $36 million in toll debt will be forgiven as part of the state’s larger toll relief plan for the Downtown and Midtown Tunnels.

Speaker of the House of Delegates Don Scott, (D-Portsmouth) and State Sen. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth) made the announcement Wednesday that those who live in either Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton or Franklin and make less than $50,000 a year could see their outstanding toll bills eliminated, if those bills were connected to trips made between 2014 and the end of 2023…
