WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCSC) – On Saturday, people who live on the East Coast but are originally from a country in the South Pacific called the Kingdom of Tonga celebrated their heritage with an event called Tonga Day.
Each year, people from the Polynesian Country also known as ‘the friendly islands,’ gather to celebrate and keep their heritage alive. 150 to 200 people were expected to attend.
People now living on the East Coast of the United States spanning from Florida to upstate NY make up the growing group that celebrates each year. They unite to celebrate their culture through performing traditional dancing, using their native language, eating traditional foods and teaching children about their way of life…
