3-year-old hurt following accidental shooting in Norfolk; man charged

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY)– A child is hurt after accidently shooting themselves in Norfolk early Friday morning.

According to police, officers were called to CHKD at 3:15 a.m. by hospital staff. When officers arrived, they learned a 3-year-old child had been brought to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand.

As a result, detectives charged 24-year-old Kirk M. Bond Jr.

He faces the following charges:

  • Reckless handling of a firearm
  • Allowing access to a firearm by a child
  • Child neglect
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
