VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A jury convicted Logan Thorp, 26, late Tuesday afternoon on a charge of having a gun on the property of Bayside Presbyterian Church preschool.

Thorp was baptized at the church, his parents were married there and he attended several years’ worth of boy scout meetings there, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. But he contended that he didn’t realize there was a preschool connected to the church, even though he attended that school.
The Commonwealth had to show that Thorp knew he had a gun and knew he was on the grounds of a preschool for a conviction — and the preschool was operating when he came to Bayside Presbyterian the morning of Jan. 8.

Thorp had a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver with a single bullet in his pocket. The Commonwealth said what Thorp intended to do was irrelevant in this case.
Thorp made his way into the sanctuary and told authorities all he wanted to do was pray. Thorp considers himself highly religious and has crosses tattooed in three places on his face and his neck. In a February jailhouse interview, he told WAVY that the crosses signify the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and he feels he, too is being crucified…
