NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — On the afternoon of June 20, 2023, Albert Johnson, 38, was visiting a friend near Pleasant Avenue and 9th Bay Street when he knocked on the wrong door. Behind that door was then-72-year-old Leroy King.
According to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, evidence showed that King came outside armed with a handgun and shot Johnson twice, in his neck and torso.

King pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a murder. A jury, however, found King guilty of both charges, and Wednesday, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
“This case was just really aggravated and really unnecessary,” said Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “I went out there to the scene on June 20 of a couple of years ago, and it was one of those rare instances where the facts, as the police first understood them, were pretty much the facts. The victim who was disabled. He had suffered some injuries as a teenager, had gone up to the second floor to have a conversation with Mr. King’s neighbor. Mr. King apparently stuck his head out the door, went back into his apartment, got a gun and shot the victim dead for absolutely no reason. Well, that is murder.”…
