Virginia Beach, VA – Swimmers along Virginia’s coast are facing some of the most hazardous beach conditions of the summer, with choppy surf and powerful waves reaching 7 feet making swimming life-threatening through at least Saturday. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a high risk of rip currents continues for all area beaches, from Ocean City to Sandbridge and Corolla, fueled by rough surf that could overpower even the strongest swimmers.

Officials warn that these dangerous currents can sweep swimmers away from shore in seconds. Lifeguards may not be able to respond quickly enough, especially at unguarded beaches.
