PPD: Cypress Rd. residents asked to remain indoors due to police activity

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Residents of Cypress Road in Portsmouth were asked to shelter in place Thursday morning due to police activity in the area.

According to officials, individuals who live between the 30 and 50 blocks of Cypress Road, as well as any nearby areas, were asked to remain inside their homes while officers with the Portsmouth Police Department were on scene of an incident connected to a shooting in Chesapeake that killed one woman and injured two officers.

Portsmouth Police said the person of interest in the Chesapeake shooting, Shaun M. Boker, was taken into custody after a brief standoff in the 40 block of Cypress Road.

Boker, who has since been charged with first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling, is now in the custody of the Chesapeake Police Department.

Drivers were also urged to avoid the area and to use an alternate route while the incident remained ongoing. Traffic patterns have now returned to normal…
