Firefighters in Virginia on Thursday rappelled down an elevator shaft to rescue a woman who became trapped when the elevator stalled.
The Virginia Beach Fire Department said crews responded to the Armada Hoffler Building on Central Drive in the Town Center neighborhood at around 2:15 p.m. Thursday for a report of a stalled elevator with one person trapped inside.
Firefighters arrived and quickly upgraded the call to a technical rescue incident after finding that “standard entry methods were not viable.” The elevator car was stalled just above the first floor, and there was “no accessible entry point” between the first and ninth floors…
