VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Teachers and staff of Virginia Beach City Public Schools said they are feeling sticker shock as their health care premiums are set to increase by triple percentage points.
In a letter sent to the tens of thousands employees and retirees of the district last week, the City of Virginia Beach’s Consolidated Benefits Office revealed rates would go into effect Jan. 1 which would increase costs by more than 110% for many.
Those current employees electing care for only themselves would now be on the hook for more than $1,265 annually under the new point-of-care plan, up from the $595 they currently pay. Those with families can expect a $200 per-pay-check increase over their current amount…
