Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service preparing for possible rip currents from Erin

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Forecasts for Erin don’t show the storm hitting Hampton Roads directly, but we will certainly feel its effects as the waves increase and bring an increased chance of rip currents with it.

With the swell set to hit early next week and peak around mid-week and carry on throughout the week, Gary Felch, deputy chief with Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service, said he and his team are preparing for the incoming storm.

“Maybe early in the week some ground swells and some bigger waves will be coming in,” Welch said. “When that happens, we tend to have a higher risk of rip currents. It’ll be kind of gradual until it gets here and then, we’re just trying to keep people as safe as we can.”…
