Kiggans on TRICARE troubles: ‘We need to expedite things’

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Growing pains and inadequate testing are just some of the possible roots of the problems that Humana Military is having processing claims for TRICARE, the health insurance provider for military members and their families, according to Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-2nd Dist.).

Humana started a new contract with TRICARE in January. Kiggans said that has been long enough for the company to get up to speed, and said Humana could have done more testing before they went live seven months ago.

“So now they’re having to start over, and especially in registering for early electronic payment or credentialing and recertification,” Kiggans said following Monday’s roundtable discussion. “So there’s a lot of starting over that’s creating some slowdowns in the reimbursement process.”…
