House fire in Norfolk injures firefighter, leaves residents displaced

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk firefighter was injured while responding to a house fire Thursday afternoon.

The fire happened in the 200 block of East 40th Street around 1:30 p.m. When Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames.

Firefighters stretched multiple hoselines for an interior attack. The fire was on the first and second floor of the residence as well as the attic.

One firefighter was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. There were no other injuries reported to firefighters, civilians or pets…
