Former Rockette Patsy Elliott Shows She’s Still Got It At 90

The Radio City Rockettes recently celebrated 100 years of iconic dance, showcasing the talent that has graced their stage for decades. Among those who inspire is Patsy Elliott, who joined the troupe in 1953 after high school. Now 90, she still stays active, taking part in a line dancing class at the First Colonial Inn Assisted Living Facility in Virginia Beach.

Patsy Elliott’s story is a testament to dedication and passion. Beginning dance lessons at the age of five under instructor Billy Tryall in Salisbury, she developed the skills that would eventually carry her to New York City. Her journey to the Rockettes was demanding, as dancers had to meet strict height and performance requirements, mastering jazz, ballet, tap, modern dance, and the famous high kicks that made the troupe legendary.

When Patsy Elliott joined the Rockettes in the 1950s, the schedule was grueling and the standards exacting. Dancers were required to stand between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 10.5 inches tall, with the stamina and technique to perform intricate routines night after night. Patsy’s lanky body and long legs made her perfect for the ensemble, and her talent quickly set her apart among her peers.
