NORFOLK, Va. — A Hampton Roads teen is shining a spotlight on colorblindness and helping local families access free educational tools and vision screenings as part of International Colorblindness Awareness Month.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, the Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library in Ocean View will host a Homeschool Resource Giveaway and Vision Screening Event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families can pick up free textbooks, workbooks, teaching guides, and other school materials, donated by the Ocean View Lions Club, while supplies last. Children will also have the opportunity to receive free vision and color vision screenings.
The event is being led by Neal Challa, a senior at Grassfield High School who founded Color InSight, a youth-led initiative that promotes early screening and raises awareness of Color Vision Deficiency (CVD), more commonly known as colorblindness.
