School in Virginia Beach reports measles case as VDH confirms case in Eastern Region

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach school said Wednesday there was a reported measles case there as the Virginia Department of Health announced the state’s fourth measles case of 2025, a 5-to-12-year-old child in the Eastern Region who recently traveled internationally.

VDH did not provide any other details about the patient to protect the family’s privacy, but an email sent out from Trantwood Elementary School in Virginia Beach stated there was a reported case of measles at the school, with a known date of onset being Aug. 26, the second day of school. That email attached a letter from the VDH for more detailed information.

“We understand this is a very concerning situation,” the email states. “The health of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us. Please know we are working very closely with the Virginia Department of Health to address this situation.”…
