CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A 19-year-old Chesapeake man was taken into custody in Moyock, North Carolina on Wednesday after police say he attacked a woman, leaving her with a laceration wound in a busy residential area.
Woman Attacked in Chesapeake
Police said officers were called around 11:41 a.m. to the 500 block of Independence Parkway, where they found a woman suffering from a cut to her body. The victim told investigators that she had been attacked by an unknown man before he fled the scene .
The suspect was initially described as a white male in his 20s with curly hair, possibly wearing a speckled shirt. The report prompted an urgent search in both Virginia and North Carolina.
Moyock Commons Lockdown
Hours later, the suspect’s vehicle was located at 100 Moyock Commons Drive, near an Atlantic Union Bank in the Moyock Commons shopping center. The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office warned the public to avoid the area as deputies, SWAT officers, and Chesapeake police surrounded the suspect’s car .
During the standoff, Moyock Elementary School was placed on a temporary hold, with buses and parent pickups delayed until the scene was secured. Officials said these precautions were taken to ensure children and families were kept safe while deputies worked to resolve the situation.
Suspect Identified as 19-Year-Old
