VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A first step is being taken toward solving the problem of an awful stench coming out of a small body of water in the Windsor Oaks neighborhood in Virginia Beach.
The creek periodically unleashes a rancid stench throughout the neighborhood, and it runs through several backyards, with neighbors comparing the smell to human waste, occasionally getting too foul to bear on bad days.

“We just want to be able to be in our backyard,” John Kirby said, “have a cookout, be in our home and not have to worry about your children looking at you saying, ‘Hey dad, my eyes are burning, my throat’s hurting. Can we go somewhere? Can we leave our own home?”
Longtime neighbors said it started at around 2017 when the city dredged the site after a hurricane. The city recently tested the water, finding no evidence of unnatural discharge so far…
