NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Dominion Energy crews were busy all day Tuesday working to restore power outages as heavy rain and wind moved across Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina.
At the height of high tide Tuesday evening, around 5:30 p.m., the power company reported nearly 30,000 outages in southeastern Virginia, with the majority of those outages, about 26,000, in Virginia Beach. Another roughly 6,500 customers were without power in Norfolk as of 6:30 p.m.
By 11 p.m., the total number of Dominion customers without power in southeastern Virginia was down to 15,450, with most of those in Virginia Beach in the Chic’s Beach, Bayside and Thoroughgood neighborhoods, as well as the Shore Drive area from Pleasure House Point along Shore Drive to near North Great Neck Road.
Many of those outages are concentrated along Shore Drive between Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story into the Bayside and Thoroughgood areas of the city, along with the Shore Drive area around First Landing State Park, Fort Story and areas along North Great Neck Road stretching toward Atlantic Avenue.
The day started Tuesday with nearly 5,000 Norfolk residents without power.
The outage reported around 7:30 a.m. impacted Dominion Energy customers near Ocean View and Camellia Gardens.
Residents in the Azalea Acres area also experienced outages.
The estimated time of restoration was between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. but by 9:30 a.m., the number of outages was reduced to 350…
