‘Please, say something’: Family of Portsmouth murder victim push for people to come forward with information one year later

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — It’s been one year since a man was shot and killed in broad daylight in Portsmouth.

Around 10:20 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, Portsmouth police responded to the 300 block of Gilmerton Avenue and found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was later identified as 38-year-old Marvin Lamar Hatcher.

One year later, Hatcher’s family gathered in the spot he was killed to remember his life and demand justice for what happened to him.

“I’m not well at all about this,” Marvin Hatcher’s mother, Alicia Hatcher, told 10 On Your Side. “And no one should ever have to go through this, as my family and I do. “The blood shedded in this place was so senseless.
