Jury to deliberate Joseph Cross’ fate in Portsmouth double murder trial

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Jury deliberations are expected to begin Thursday in the case of Joseph Cross, who’s accused of killing twin brothers Alvin and Calvin Joyner and wounding a woman.

Jurors have heard two very different versions of what happened. In recorded interviews with detectives, Cross first denied knowing anything about the shootings. Days later, he admitted pulling the trigger, saying he did it to protect his girlfriend after one of the brothers became aggressive. He also said he shot the female victim because he worried she would go to the police.

But that woman told a different story on the stand. She testified that Cross demanded money, then started shooting, and that she only survived by pretending to be dead…
