Man found guilty in Portsmouth double murder

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The man accused of shooting and killing twin brothers Alvin and Calvin Joyner and shooting and injuring another woman more than two years ago on Nashville Avenue in Portsmouth have been found guilty Thursday on charges of aggravated murder, two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding.

Closing arguments in the case against Joseph Cross wrapped up a little before three Thursday afternoon, and the jury came back with guilty verdicts on those charges, as well as five counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

“We disagree with the verdict,” said defense attorney Nathan Chapman. “We think the facts as they were presented should have led to a different conclusion.”…
