City of Norfolk prepares for potential tidal flooding

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The City of Norfolk is anticipating tidal flooding Wednesday evening through Thursday.

Super Doppler 10 Chief Meteorologist Jeff Edmondson says minor tidal flooding is expected to begin Wednesday around 5 p.m. in Norfolk, with the high tide at 5.2 feet — minor flooding starts at 4.5 feet. Flooding will be possible two hours on either side of the high tide.

Low-lying areas will be susceptible to flooding during high tide.

Norfolk officials announced they will open the York Street Garage at noon on Wednesday for anyone needing to move their vehicle to higher ground. The garage will remain available for free until 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3. The garage is located at 215 W. York St…
