Man found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2024 double homicide in Norfolk, ordered to state hospital

NORFOLK, Va. — A Norfolk judge has ordered 22-year-old Ronnie Nyamekye Campbell into inpatient state hospital treatment after finding him not guilty by reason of insanity in the second-degree murders of his father and grandmother in 2024.

Campbell will remain in inpatient treatment at a locked treatment facility for the next year while the court reviews his mental health progress.

The attacks happened just before 5 p.m. on Feb. 8, 2024, at a home on Dunkirk Avenue. Campbell stabbed his 46-year-old father, Ronnie Credle Campbell, and 64-year-old grandmother, Arneta Marie Thagard.
