Historic Norfolk furniture store set to shut down by end of 2025

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A popular furniture store with a long history in Norfolk announced it will be closing after 86 years in business.

According to a release, the Virginia Furniture Company, which has operated since 1939 in various locations throughout Norfolk, will be closing its doors on Dec. 31, 2025.

The company, which was founded by brothers Harry and Leonard Laibstain, started on Church Street before moving to the Downtown Plaza Shopping Center on St. Paul’s Boulevard in the 60s and finally moving in 2005 to its current location at 745 Granby Street in the NEON District…
