NORFOLK, Va. — A grandmother has pleaded guilty to felony murder in the 2024 death of her granddaughter Wednesday, the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney said.
Shortly after midnight on April 22, 2024, officers responded to the 100 block of Suburban Parkway, near Granby Street, for a report of an unresponsive infant. The baby was taken to the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, where staff pronounced the child deceased.
More than eight months later, detectives charged 50-year-old Alvetta J. Haskins, the infant’s grandmother, with second-degree murder. Police said Haskins was babysitting the child at her home at the time.
