NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk couple was sentenced Friday to 12 years and 10 years in prison, respectively, after the death of their 9-day-old baby.
According to a press release from the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Hilary Darnell Johnson II, 24, and Z’Ibreyea Shantel Parker, 22, arrived at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters with the body of their daughter Iijayah at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The parents told the staff that Iijayah had fallen from her stroller and hit her head two days before while Johnson was jogging but attempted to treat her with witch hazel, peroxide and gauze. They got on the Light Rail to bring her to the hospital when they realized her appetite had decreased and she no longer appeared to be breathing.
