VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Ken Sutton remembers marching with Jesse Jackson as a teenager, speaking out against supermarket redlining in Chicago.
“As a 15-year-old, I didn’t know stores like that existed,” Sutton recalled during his time growing up in the largest city in Illinois. “I walked into one on the far south side of Chicago, southwest side… It was like walking in to a different world.”
Now this Navy veteran, retired school teacher and longtime Virginia Beach resident is still making his voice heard 60 years later…
