NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY)– A local sorority surprised a new mother Thursday morning in honor of their organizations 103rd founders day.
The Theta Chi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated undergraduate chapter at Old Dominion University(ODU) began collecting baby items on November 2 for their “Rhoyal Baby Blessing” initiative. The goal of the initiative was to gift the collected items to the mother of the first baby girl born at Sentara Leigh Hospital on November 12, which is the day the sorority was founded.
Officials with Sentara Leigh hospital notified the chapter early Wednesday morning that the first baby girl had arrived.
Thursday morning, members of the sorority gifted the collected items to the new mother. Members say both of the baby girl’s parents were overjoyed and grateful for the gifts. While talking with parents, chapter members learned the mother was an alumni of ODU and currently employed with the institution. They also learned the father was a former ODU employee…
