PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — There are new changes for people who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP benefits. The new rules require people to meet certain criteria.
Under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, people must now meet certain work requirements to maintain their SNAP benefits.

“We are anticipating a significant impact on the food banks because as the restrictions or requirements for SNAP benefits get more stringent, it’s going to drive people to our lines,” said Bob Latvis, the CEO of the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.
With the changes, the age limit for able-bodied people to receive benefits went from 18 to 54 to now 64. It will require SNAP recipients to work 80 hours a month, which is about 20 hours a week. That can be combined with paid and community service, or you can be part of a work education program…
