Man accused of killing 20-year-old in Virginia Beach nightclub faces preliminary hearing

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (WAVY) — A judge denied a bond hearing request from Cesar Bermudez Evans, the man charged with killing 20-year-old Juelle Morton outside a Virginia Beach nightclub in September, during a preliminary hearing Thursday in Virginia Beach General District Court.

The hearing drew a divided courtroom. On one side, supporters of Bermudez Evans, 21, including his brother, a woman and a minor, were seen praying and wiping away tears as he entered. On the other, supporters of Morton filled the front two rows.

The prosecution had one witness, a Virginia Beach homicide detective who described the scene at the Renaissance Place shopping center as chaotic.
