How local Hampton Roads schools are navigating A.I. in the classroom

VIRGINIA, USA — Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept; it’s already in Hampton Roads classrooms. However, as students gain access to these powerful tools, educators say the challenge isn’t banning technology, it’s teaching students how to use it responsibly.

For Scott Debb, a professor of psychology and director of the Cyberpsychology Lab at Norfolk State University, the distinction is simple: A.I. can be a tool, or it can become a crutch.

“It depends on how the student is prepared for using the technology,” Debb said. “I guess an easier way to say things is that it could be a tool, as in your assistant, or you can try to have it do things for you. If you ask the hammer to build the house for you, it’s not going to happen properly.”…
