Pollution limits protect Hampton Roads waterways year-round: Here’s how they work

NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads is surrounded by water, but there are limits to how much pollution can flow into it. Those limits are designed to protect the Chesapeake Bay and local waterways throughout the year.

From roadways to backyards, what enters the region’s waterways is shaped by everyday decisions, by residents, state agencies, and environmental groups, all operating within a system meant to keep pollution in check.
