NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is encouraging commuters to rethink their daily drive as it kicks off a campaign aimed at easing traffic congestion, helping the environment and saving money.
The agency is promoting its vanpool program through an initiative dubbed “Vanuary,” which is designed to raise awareness about alternatives to driving alone.
“For those getting to work, commuting, they don’t necessarily have to drive every day,” said Thomas Becher of Hampton Roads Transit. “Someone in the van pool does take a shift, but you have friends while you drive.”…
