Replacement plaque being made for fallen Virginia Beach officers, correcting typos

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A plaque honoring the lives of fallen Virginia Beach police officers Christopher Reese and Cameron Girvin contain a small handful of errors.

We reached out to the Virginia Beach Police Foundation. They told 10 On Your Side, the widows of both officers are aware of the typos. They have asked the plaque stay in place until a replacement is made. A foundation spokesperson said they agree, this would be better than not having their names there at all.

As 10 On Your Side reported in February of this year, officers Reese and Girvin tried pulling over someone for an expired license plate. That driver instead kept going, later stopping at a dead end. He eventually shot and killed both officers according to the Virginia Beach Police Chief.

Their names now join the other fallen officers of Virginia Beach at the Law Enforcement Memorial at Oceanfront. Among the small errors on the plaque for Reese and Girvin include showing the incorrect year of their deaths.

The Foundation spokesperson says they work with a vendor to get these plaques made. Staff issues with the vendor caused the replacement plaque to be delayed. They expect the new plaque to be installed before Feb. 22, 2026, which is the first anniversary of the deadly shooting…
