The move to Hampton Roads tainted by tragedy

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — With plenty of jobs on the waterfront, good weather and great views, the Hampton Roads region sounded like an ideal new home for the Parrish family of Yonkers, New York.

They set up a multi-generational home in Hampton that included a mother, a grandson and three adult children. A fourth, 49-year-old Reginald, father of the grandson, was still in New York when his sister returned for a dreaded visit.

“My sister came to visit me and she informed me that my son was found [dead],” said Parrish, a welder for a company that handles jobs for the Navy. “It was heartbreaking. That’s my first born. So it was … devastating. IMore just couldn’t believe it.”
