PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — One of more than 500 women suing Chesapeake Regional Healthcare in connection with an OBGYN convicted of illegal surgeries and healthcare fraud is speaking out about her life-changing ordeal and injury.

Perwaiz was arrested in 2019 and later convicted on federal charges of fraud and abuse. He was sentenced to 59 years in prison.
Last month, a lawsuit was filed against Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, saying the system and its hospital on Battlefield Boulevard enabled Perwaiz by giving him privileges there. Each of the 510 named plaintiffs is suing for $10 million.
